In the Yayoi period, a large area known as the Yoshisaki Suba Site was created on the banks of Ochigata lagoon. In addition to excavated items such as a large number of Yayoi pottery, precious bronze mirrors, stones used to make magatama beads, comma shaped beads, and agricultural tools for rice cultivation, a ditch surrounding the village, a large residence, and a raised granary for storing harvested rice were also found. Such findings have allowed us to learn about the rich lifestyle and culture of the Yayoi people of Hakui. There are no other village sites from the Yayoi period in Noto that are as well-provided as this one.
It is thought that the Yoshisaki Suba Site was a settlement that quickly adopted new culture and technology through exchanges via the Sea of Japan, serving as a base to spread it to the surrounding villages. Yayoi period Hakui was a culturally advanced area of Noto.
