The Suemori Castle Site is located on Mt. Suemori (elevation 138.8m) in the central part of Hodatsushimizu Town, and is considered one of the prominent mountain castle ruins in Noto. The site is strategically positioned at a transportation hub connecting Noto with Kaga and Etchu.
The exact date of the castle's construction is unknown, however excavations have revealed artifacts such as Haji pottery, ceramics, grinding stones, Go stones, bullets, iron nails, and copper coins, indicating activity from the late 15th century to the 16th century.
Three bullets have been discovered at the Suemori Castle Site. They measure approximately 1cm in diameter and weigh about 5 to 6gm, with one being made of lead and two made of copper. The Suemori Castle Site was the site where MAEDA Toshiie and SASSA Narimasa clashed in September 1584. The discovered bullets are valuable evidence indicating that firearms were used in the battle of Suemori Castle.
