In October 1941, at the age of 71, NISHIDA Kitaro contracted rheumatoid arthritis and could no longer move his limbs. He spent about 10 months undergoing treatment, including hospitalization. For Kitaro, who considered it his mission to write his thesis, it was extremely distressful for him to be unable to move his fingers and write.
This rubber doll was used by Kitaro for rehabilitation during his medical treatment. He squeezed and released his hand repeatedly to regain movement, and was able to write again.
